Mountain bike shoes are stiffer than an athletic shoe or skate shoe, but generally not as stiff as road cycling shoes. Whether you choose a clipless or flat style shoe, the outsoles are designed for great traction and grip on the pedals and in dirt, so that you ride or walk confidently on dusty, muddy, or wet trails and terrain. Like road cycling shoes, you’ll want to choose a pair that fits properly to provide good support and comfort when you’re riding. Your foot should feel stable in the shoe, with good arch support and your heel firmly in place. Clipless Mountain Bike Shoes: The benefits of clipless mountain bike shoes are the same as road cycling shoes. Being clipped-in to the pedals can make it easier to power over rocks and roots, and can also make it easier to bunny hop, or control your bike in technical situations. Additionally, you can perfect your “lower half fit” so your feet, knees, and hips are all aligned, making it easier to maintain a higher or more powerful pedal stroke for racing or training. If you choose a clipless shoe/pedal combination, it’s important to make sure you set-up the cleat position properly for best comfort and performance. If you’re not sure how to do this, or if you’ve had issues with knee pain, foot discomfort or similar concerns, check with a professional bike fitter or your local bike shop. Flat Pedal Mountain Bike Shoes: The most obvious benefit of flats is that they can feel super natural and they’re intuitive to use. Your feet naturally know where to go on the pedals and you can make small adjustments whenever you need to. It’s also easier to put a foot down if you need to for a tight corner, emergency stop, or to avoid a fall. There are some tradeoffs with flat pedals. Since your feet aren’t clipped-in to the pedals, slipping or bouncing off the pedals can happen, especially in wet or really rocky terrain. Unless you’ve spent time mastering some skills, moves like bunny hops and side hops, and lifting your rear wheel, can also be harder to execute since you can’t rely on the clipped-in connection to help you lift up the wheel. And last but not least, it can be difficult to maintain a high cadence for extended periods of time.

I got these for half the RRP. At £40 they are very good value. At the full price I would want a bit more comfort. The velcro stays tight and doesn’t slip, they are easy to put on and off. Just not the most comfortable cycling shoe I’ve had, a little too stiff.

Bought these for my gravel bike and cleats. Not lace up as I wanted but still pretty good. I thought they may have laces under the velcro but not. May keep, May send back. Lets see. Overall, RRP £80, bought for £45 so can’t complain. great price from a great reputable brand GIRO.

They look great and fit true to size. Quite comfortable and easy to walk around even with the cleat. Need to do some more testing before I comment further.

    Nice shoes for good price
They fit nice, ordered normal size for me and they fit fine. Seem durable, but have only been using them for road rides, not MTB rides yet. Nicely ventilated for summer, not so great a feature in the northern winter. Closure is secure, grippy sole, rigid platform for clipless.

    Too narrow width for me
I have very wide feet and this shoe was advertised as a wider shoe. However, it was not wide enough for my feet.

  6. Dave Sawyer

Good shoe, a little heavy in my size.
I like the shoe. My only complaint, and it is a small one, is that the shoe seems a little heavy. I wear a big shoe so it may just be me. But I find the shoe comfortable and well made.

  7. Jessica Powell

Good shoe for spinning, bit heavy, good Velcro
Fit as expected. I can really tighten them tight with the velcro straps. My foot is a little narrow though so I really have to strap em hard and wear thicker socks. They are a little heavy in weight because of the thick rubber but not noticeable on the peloton. I get PRs all the time now so that’s clutch.

    Run small
The size chart should be adjusted to order by what you will receive. The shoes are sold in European sizes. I normally use a 46 or 47. I ordered size 12 and received 46. In this case the 46 is too tight. So, I re-ordered as a size 13. Their size chart indicates a US 13 could be European 47 or 48. I did receive the 47, thankfully, as the 48 would definitely been too big.I did not like the inner sole and immediately replaced it.Now when the weather clears I’ll be able to get some on-road experience.
